Meany

A little girl was playing near the curb of a street when her mother called her to come back into the yard. The little girl turned, looked at her mother, and began to put her toe just over the curb edge toward the road. Immediately the mother responded with an authoritative yell, “Get back in this yard right now young lady!” To which the tiny tot responded, “No!” and proceeded toward the road. The mother took charge, marched toward the determined little girl, picked her up, and began to administer aid for obedience. Just as the mother was hauling the screaming child away from the dangerous roadway the angry faced little girl looked up at the mother through her tears and said, “You're a meany.”

Now for those who have had the privilege of taking care of children for any length of time at all, they know the inward pain and hurt that comes from being called a “meany”. However, for most of these, they also know that they would rather be in the category of “meany” than to have the results that occur when they do not restrict children, such as: bodily harm or even death. No, for those who look beyond the “meany” term, they know that there is a greater concern than whether they bear the title of “meany” or not.

But what about when it comes to one's country? What if there are tendencies and trends that are leading a country toward a dangerous road ahead? What if there are morality issues that are left unbridled, and dissembling in the route is being taken? What if the impending danger is left unheeded, and a huge accident is waiting? Is there no one who will be the “meany” and see beyond the political re-election process and call the child back?

Maybe this time around the question should be, “Will the real “meany” please stand up, and take the role of one who leads and guides no matter how much the child screams or calls them names?”

Until tomorrow...Why Say More?
