Upstaged

A young man reaches his goal of bench pressing two hundred pounds. After feeling rather proud of himself, another young man his same age and weight begins his workout with warmups of ten reps at two hundred pounds. The first boy has been upstaged.

A young girl finally gets the attention of a young man she has had her eye on for six months. He winks at her across the room and with fluttering feelings and happiness inside that she finally got his attention, she watches as the prettiest girl in school walks up to him, throws her arms around him and says, “Hi my love.” As the pretty girl walks away with him, the first girl notices she is wearing a necklace with his class ring on around her neck. The young girl has been upstaged.

Oh these two examples might not have never happened to the reader, and quite possibly there are different examples that could be employed. Most who read know when someone else did something just a little better, looked a little better or handled something a little better than they did. The feeling of being upstaged is not a very happy one. In fact, it often makes one sad, jealous or even angry.

However, consider this. One of the most hated traits by the one who matters most is a proud look. One of the benefits to being upstaged is that it produces humility, and when humility comes, the proud look disappears and so does the most hated thing.

Until tomorrow...Why Say More?
