Over and Over Again

A little girl watched the cars go round and round at the amusement park. The little pink one caught her attention the most, and she pulled on her mommy's leg and asked, “Can I ride it, Mommy? Can I?” “Of course you can, honey,” the mommy answered. “That's why we're here.” After waiting in a long line and watching for the little cars to stop, finally it was the little girl's turn. She climbed aboard the fancy painted pink car, and soon the ride began. She laughed and screamed. She smiled and made noises like a race car, and she steered the wheel on the car like she was driving herself. But soon, the car stopped, and the ride was over.

Now the little girl was upset, and she wanted to ride more. She said to her awaiting mommy, “I want to ride it again. I want to ride it over and over again.” The mommy smiled knowing that there would be another wait in the long line before it would be her daughter's turn again, so she pointed to the line and said, “Honey, if you want to ride it again, you will have to wait in that long line over there.” The little girl's face dropped and she said, “Why is it when I find something so fun I have to wait for it to happen over and over again?” The mommy chuckled and answered, “When I find the answer to that question, you will be the first to know.”

Amusement park rides, boat rides, visits to the beach, visits to the mountains, fishing trips, vacations, basically fill in the blank activities, all seem to last such a short time, and when they are enjoyable, people want to do them over an over again. Some activities just seem to have an insatiable element to them, so that one time is not enough. One wonders why there even has to be a gap between them such as work, school, doctor visits, etc. Maybe if a person could and would choose to allow each day he or she breathes to be like an amusement ride, the desire just to be alive will be the most desired activity to be enjoyed over and over again.

Until tomorrow...Why Say More?
