In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Fret not yourself because of evil men, neither be you envious at the wicked”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse twenty of Proverbs Solomon said, “there shall be no reward to the evil man” where we read,
For there shall be no reward to the evil man;
the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
The verse begins, “For there shall be no reward to the evil man;” Solomon began with the words, “for there shall be no reward” or “because, since and on account that there will exist not any after part, end, issue, latter time, posterity or future” “to the evil man” which means “toward the person whether male or female who is bad, displeasing, injurious and wicked”. Solomon said people who are injurious and wicked will receive no future.
The verse goes on to say, “the candle of the wicked shall be put out.” Solomon continued with the words, “the candle” or “the glistening, lamp or light” “of the wicked” which means “belonging to people who are criminal, guilty of crimes, evil and hostile to God” “shall be put out” or “will be extinguished and snuffed out”. Solomon said the light of people who are evil and hostile to God will be extinguished.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how there exists no future to the person who is injurious and wicked, and the light of people who are criminal and hostile to God will be extinguished. God knows the fate of every person, and because we are all destined to die (See Hebrews 9:27), God sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from being among the “evil and wicked” who have no future and whose lamps shall be extinguished.
Next time Solomon says, “my son, fear you the LORD and the king”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
