The LORD Sees It and Is Displeased - Proverbs 24:18

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Rejoice not when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse eighteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “lest the LORD see it, and it displease him” where we read,

Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him,

and he turn away his wrath from him.

The verse begins, “Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, ... Solomon began with the words, “Lest the LORD see it” or “beware or Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God shall perceive, observe, notice and discern that Solomon's son is rejoicing when his enemy falls”, “and it displease him” which means “and Solomon's son rejoicing when his enemy falls is disapproved by him, Jehovah God”. Solomon shared how Jehovah God would observe Solomon's son rejoicing over the fall of his enemy, and He would disapprove of it.

The verse goes on to say, “... and he turn away his wrath from him.” Solomon continued with the words, “and he turn away his wrath” or “and he, Jehovah God, remove his anger or rage that wrinkles the nostril or nose” “from him” which means “separate and apart from him, Solomon's son's enemy”. Solomon said Jehovah God would remove his anger from the enemy of Solomon's son if he rejoiced over his adversary's stumble and fall.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how Jehovah God is watching how we respond to the “fall” of our adversaries. “Vengeance is mine. I will repay, says the LORD” (See Romans 12:19 and Isaiah 63:4), and if our enemies are judged by Him, we are warned not to rejoice. God loves us, and He carries out judgment upon wicked people according to His Divine purpose and plan. He desires to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and hold us back from rejoicing when our enemies are judged.

Next time Solomon says, “fret not yourself because of evil men”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
