In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Wisdom is too high for a fool: he opens not his mouth in the gate”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse nine of Proverbs Solomon said, “the thought of foolishness is sin” where we read,
The thought of foolishness is sin:
and the scorner is an abomination to men.
The verse begins, “The thought of foolishness is sin:” Solomon began with the words, “the thought of foolishness” or “the plan, devise, scheme or mischievous purpose related to folly and silliness ” “is sin” which means “exists as an abomination, missing the mark, offensive and detestable”. Solomon shared how the plan and mischievous purpose of folly and silliness is an abomination and detestable.
The verse continues, “and the scorner is an abomination to men.” Solomon added the words, “and the scorner” or “and the person whether male or female who is an arrogant boaster, derider and mocker” “is an abomination” which means “exists as disgusting, abhorrent, idolatrous and detestable” “to men” or “to people whether male or female”. Solomon said a person who is an arrogant boaster and mocker exists as disgusting and detestable to other people.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the plans and purposes related to silliness and folly exist as an abomination, and the person who is a mocking and arrogant boaster exists as disgusting, idolatrous and detestable. God wants to keep us from these ways, and because we are inclined to violate His law and commandments, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the power of His Holy Spirit to resist silly plans and mocking behavior.
Next time Solomon shares the cause, “if you faint in the day of adversity”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
