In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon said, “Cast your bread upon the waters: for you shall find it after many days”, and in chapter eleven and verse two of his book Solomon said, “give a portion to seven, and also to eight” where we read,
Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for you know not what evil shall be upon the earth.
The verse reads, “Give a portion to seven, and also to eight;” Solomon began with the words, “give a portion to seven” or “bestow, grant, consecrate, dedicate and entrust a share, part or parcel to seven places”, “and also to eight” which means “and even so and indeed to eight places”. Solomon instructed his readers to divide and entrust their shares into seven and even eight different places.
The verse continues, “for you know not what evil shall be upon the earth.” Solomon added the words, “for you know not” or “because, since and on account that you, Solomon’s readers, are unaware, without perception and discernment” “what evil shall be” which means “the bad, disagreeableness, malignancy, displeasure and wickedness which will exist” “upon the earth” or “in the land, country, territory, region or world”. Solomon noted how his readers were unaware of the displeasure and wickedness which will come into their territory and country.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how we are to divide our investments into several places, (Solomon said seven or eight) because we do not know what the future holds. We should remember God owns everything, and all times are within His hands. He desires to have a personal intimate relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the wisdom of His Holy Spirit to know where to invest that which He has provided to us.
Next time Solomon says, “If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
