In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon said, “If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it shall be”, and in chapter eleven and verse four of his book Solomon said, “he that observes the wind shall not sow” where we read,
He that observes the wind shall not sow; and he that regards the clouds shall not reap.
The verse reads, “He that observes the wind shall not sow;” Solomon began with the words, “he that observes the wind” or “he, the person whether male or female, who keeps, guards, gives heed to and watches the air and breeze” “shall not sow” which means “will in no way scatter, bear or promote seed”. Solomon said the person who watches and takes heed to the breeze will neglect scattering seed.
The verse continues, “and he that regards the clouds shall not reap.” Solomon added the words, “and he that regards the clouds” or “and he, the person whether male or female, who sees, looks at, inspects, perceives and considers the darkness, thicket and cloudy masses” “shall not reap” which means “will in no way or manner harvest”. Solomon said the person who inspects and considers the dark cloudy masses will not harvest their fields.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how people who are so fearful of “windy” conditions do not scatter seed in the fields, and those who pay anxious attention to the dark cloudy masses do not harvest their crops. The apostle John wrote, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear hath torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love” (See 1 John 4:18), and although we are to be wise toward conditions in the world, we are never to allow them to keep us from the will and work that God has for us to do. God loves us, and He proved His love toward us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead after three days so when we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide His Holy Spirit to us who will guide us into all truth so we “sow and reap” in keeping with His power, wisdom and will. (See Galatians 6:7-8)
Next time Solomon says, “you know not what is the way of the spirit”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
