As Paul the apostle
continued to share with the church members in Corinth, he told how
he, “sent with” Titus
“the brother, whose praise is
in the gospel throughout all the churches”,
and in chapter
eight and verse nineteen of Second Corinthians, Paul wrote
how this “brother”
was “chosen of the churches to travel”
where we read:
And not
that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us
with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same
Lord, and declaration of your ready mind:
The verse begins, “And
not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with
us with this grace, ...”
Paul began with the word, “and
not that only”
which refers to “not that alone or merely”, “but”
which is a
disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be written
takes precedence over what was just stated “who
was also chosen”
which means “the person even and indeed was voted upon by
stretching out the hand, appointed or elected”
“of the churches”
or “by the assemblies of Christians gathered for worship in a
religious meeting” “to travel”
which means “to be as a fellow traveler or companion in travel”
“with us”
or with “Paul and his companions” “with
this grace”
or “alongside that which affords joy, pleasure, delight, sweetness,
charm, loveliness, lovingkindness and unmerited favor”.
The person who was designated to journey with Paul was “chosen”
by the “churches” to
“travel” “with grace”.
The verse goes on to say,
“...which is administered by us to the
glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind:”
Paul continued with the words, “which is
administered”
which means “served, attended to and waited upon” “by
us” which
refers to “through Paul and his companions” “to
the glory”
or “to the opinion, view, judgment, estimate, praise, honor, glory,
splendor and brightness” “of the
same”
which means “the selfsame” “Lord”
or “he to
whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding;
master and the title given to God the Messiah”, “and
declaration”
which means “from and concerning”
“of your”
which refers to the church members' “ready
mind” or
“zeal, spirit, eagerness and inclination”. Paul and his
companions ministered and served the church members concerning their
honorable gift to the church in Jerusalem by the Lord's “glory”.
When we consider
these words of Paul, we see how he wrote favorably in this chosen
person who would accompany them in their mission to Jerusalem.
This person was commended by the churches and commissioned to
“travel” with Paul
and his companions, and as they continued their journey, they did so
to the “glory of the same Lord” and
revealed the “purpose of mind”
in the Corinthian believers. Jesus Christ desires for His church to
work in His “glory” and a “ready
mind”, and
when there is “commendation, commencement and deliverance” of
what is rightfully His, we shall see “glory”
in magnifying the Lord.
Next
time Paul tells the church members how, “no
man should blame us in this abundance”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then,
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
