Paul
the apostle began to share a quote with the church members in Corinth
where he wrote, “(As
it is written, He has dispersed abroad; he has given to the poor: his
righteousness remains for ever”,
and in
chapter nine and verse eight of Second
Corinthians, Paul completed his quote as he shared with them
concerning, “he
that ministers seed to the sower”
where we read:
Now
he that ministers seed to the sower both minister bread for your
food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your
righteousness;)
The
verse begins, “Now
he that ministers seed to the sower both minister bread for your
food, ...”
Paul began with the word, “now”
which means “moreover and” “he
that ministers” or
“supply, furnish and present” “seed”
which means “germinating grain or kernel” “to
the sower”
or “the one who scatters” “both
minister”
which means “even and indeed as a choral or dance leader who
procures and supplies all things necessary to fit out a chorus”
“bread”
or “food composed of flour mixed with water and baked” “for
your food”
which refers to “that which is eaten by the church members”.
Paul repeated the words of this verse in Psalms as he shared
concerning God who “supplies” the “servants” with “seed”
to make nourishing “bread”
and “food” for the
church members. .
The verse continues,
“...and multiply your seed sown, and
increase the fruits of your righteousness;)”
Paul added the words, “and multiply”
or “and increased” “your seed
sown”
which means “the church's germinating grain or kernel scattered on
the ground”, “and increase” which
refers to “cause to augment, become greater and grow”
“the fruits”
or “the produce of agriculture” “of
your righteousness”
which means “of the church members' state as they ought to be and
the condition acceptable to God”. God also “increased” their
“seed sown” and the “produce” of “acceptable behavior”
before God.
When we consider these
words of Paul, we see how God was the one responsible not only for
the “seed” sown,
but also for the “increase” of
it. In other words, God is the one responsible for all parts, and He
freely gave them to men. In the same likeness, God desires that we
give freely toward His Kingdom. Jesus Christ gave His life for the
sins of every person, and those who believe and trust in Him shall
have everlasting life. Afterward, they should be concerned about
others knowing Him as “Savior and Lord” and “sow seed” into
the Kingdom while allowing the Lord to “increase” it.
Next
time Paul shares with the church members about,
“being enriched in everything”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then,
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
