Sow Sparingly Reap Sparingly 2 Corinthians 9:6

Paul the apostle challenged the church members in Corinth because he, thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your bounty, whereof you had notice before, that the same might be ready, as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetousness. In chapter nine and verse six of Second Corinthians, Paul tells the church members, “he which sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly” where we read:

But this I say, He which sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which sows bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

The verse begins, But this I say, He which sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly; Paul began with the word, “but” which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be written takes precedence over what was just stated “this I say” which means “Paul uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “he which sows” which refers to “the person who scatters seed” “sparingly” or “stingily” “shall reap” which means “will harvest” “sparingly” or “stingily”. Paul recognized that some people are “stingy”, and since they give in a “stingy” way, they shall “harvest” “stinginess”.

The verse goes on to say, “and he which sows bountifully shall reap also bountifully.” Paul continued with the words, “and he which sows” or “the person who scatters seed” “bountifully” or “with blessing and bounty” “shall reap” which means “will harvest” “also” or “even so and indeed” “bountifully” which means “with blessing and bounty”. Paul declared the person who “scatters seed” in a “bountiful” way will “harvest” a “bountiful” crop.

When we think through these words of Paul, we see how important it is for people to “sow” or “give” in a “bountiful” way. If a farmer “sows” a small amount of “seed”, he shall “harvest” a small crop, however, if he should “sow” a large amount of “seed”, the likelihood of him “harvesting” a large crop increases exponentially. Jesus Christ desires “cheerful and abundant” givers to His “Kingdom”, and when they do, they shall “reap abundantly” themselves.

Next time Paul exhorts each church member to give, “as he purposes in his heart”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then,
