Paul
the apostle told the church members in Corinth, “for
though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh,
and in chapter
ten and verse four of Second Corinthians, Paul told the church
members how, “the weapons of our warfare are
not carnal””
with them where we read:
(For the
weapons of our warfare are not carnal,
but
mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
The verse begins, “(For
the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, ...”
Paul parenthetically began with the word,
“for”
which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and
therefore” “the weapons” or
“the arms or instruments used in warfare” “of
our warfare”
which means “of the church members' expedition, campaign and
military service” “are not carnal”
or “fleshly or under control of the animal appetites”. Paul
declared the “arms and instruments” used for he, his companions
and the church members' “war” are not “fleshly” ones.
The verse continued, “...
but mighty through God to the pulling down
of strong holds;)” Paul continued with the
word, “but”
which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be
written takes precedence over what was just stated “mighty”
which means “able, powerful and strong” “through
God” or
“by means and according to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is
comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”
“to the pulling down” which
means “to the destruction and demolition” “of
strong holds” which
refers to “castles, fortresses and arguments and reasonings by
which a disputant endeavors to fortify his opinion and defend it
against his opponent”. Paul declared the “weapons” of believers
in Jesus to be “powerful” through God's ability which enables
them to “demolish” “fortresses” of their enemy.
When we consider these
words of Paul, we note how he parenthetically inserted these words to
assure the church members from where their true “weapons of war”
came. God Almighty provides the “instruments and arms” needed to
combat “spiritual battles”, and by His power “spiritual strong
holds” are
“torn down and destroyed”. Jesus Christ came to the world to
“defeat” the enemy of our soul, and through His “spiritual”
“weapons”,
we may now be “saved”. Jesus' power through the Holy Spirit is
available to all who will “believe” and “trust” in Him, and
rather than using “carnal”
or “fleshly” means to win “spiritual wars”, let us rely upon
the “weapons of our warfare”
provided by God.
Next
time Paul
instructs
the
church members to be, “Casting
down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against
the knowledge of God”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then,
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
