Walking Not Waring in the Flesh 2 Corinthians 10:3

Paul the apostle wrote to the church members in Corinth, “but I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh”, and in chapter ten and verse three of Second Corinthians, Paul shares the church members, how we “walk” but not “war after the flesh with them where we read:

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

The verse begins, For though we walk in the flesh, ... Paul began with the word, “for” which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and therefore” “though we walk” or “although he, his companions and the church members make their progress and due use of opportunities” “in the flesh” which means “in the mere human and earthly nature of man apart from divine influence which is therefore prone to sin and opposed to God”. Paul recognized how he, his companions and the church members all “made progress in life” with their “human and earthly natures”.

The verse goes on to say, “... we do not war after the flesh:” Paul added the words, “we do not war” or “he, his companions and the church members do not fight as soldiers on military duty” “after the flesh” which means “down from, through out, according to and toward the mere human and earthly nature of man apart from divine influence which is therefore prone to sin and opposed to God”. Paul acknowledged though they “lived” in their “fleshly” bodies, they did not “battle as soldiers in the military according to their human and earthly nature”.

When we think through these words of Paul, we realize Christians live “in the flesh”, and the “flesh nature” is part of our lives, however, our “battle” is not within our earthly nature. Jesus Christ knows we will have “war” in this life, and when we pay particular attention to Him and His ways, we shall not have confidence in “our human nature” but in His provision for “battle”.

Next time Paul tells the church members, “the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then,

Until tomorrow…there is more…
