As
Paul the apostle shared about giving to the gospel of Jesus Christ,
he told the church members in Corinth how Titus, “accepted
the exhortation; but being more forward, of his own accord he went
unto you”,
and in chapter
eight and verse eighteen of Second Corinthians, Paul shared with the
Corinthian church members about “the
brother” whose “praise
is in the gospel”
where we read:
The verse begins, “And
we have sent with him the brother, ...”
Paul began with the word, “and
we” which
refers to “Paul and his companions” “have
sent” or
“have dispatched” “with him”
which means “along with Titus” “the
brother”
or “a fellow believer who is united to another by the bond of
affection”. Paul shared how he and his
companions “sent”
another “brother”
along with Titus.
The
verse continues, “...whose praise is in the
gospel throughout all the churches;”
Paul added the words, “whose praise”
which means “whose approbation and commendation” “is
in the gospel”
which refers to “with or by the good tidings of the kingdom of God
soon to be set up” “throughout”
or “by the means of” “all”
which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of” “the
churches” or
“the assemblies of Christians gathered for worship in a religious
meeting”. Paul reported how the “commendation” of this
“brother”
he “sent”
along with Titus was known in every church.
When we think
through these words of Paul, we see how there was another person sent
along with Titus to the church. This person had a good
reputation within all the “churches”, and this is they type
person who Jesus uses to carry about His mission. This person could
have been Luke, Barnabas, Silas, Timothy or some other person,
however, we do not really know. Regardless of where the Lord Jesus
decides to use us in His kingdom, we should have “praise in the
gospel” in every place wherein our feet shall trod.
Next
time Paul tells the church members how this person was, “chosen
of the churches to travel with us”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then,
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
