Paul the apostle
challenged “Every person”
in church members in Corinth, “according
as he purposes in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of
necessity: for God loves a cheerful giver”,
and in
chapter nine and verse eight of Second
Corinthians, Paul tells the church members to be,
“always having
all sufficiency in all things”
where we read:
And God
is able to make all grace abound toward you; that you,
always
having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
The verse begins, “And
God is able to make all grace abound toward you;”
Paul began with the words, “and
God” which
refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God
the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “is
able” or
“is powerful, mighty and strong” “to
make”
which means “to fashion and form” “all
grace” or
“each, every and the whole of that which affords joy, pleasure,
delight, sweetness, charm, loveliness and unmerited favor” “abound”
which means “to exceed a certain number or measure, turn out
abundantly and overflow” “toward
you” or
“to the church members”. Paul knew
“God” would extend His abundant “unmerited favor” to the
church members..
The verse goes on to say,
“that you, always having all sufficiency in
all things, may abound to every good work:”
Paul added the words, “that you”
or “so the church members”, “always”
which means “at all times and ever” “having
all sufficiency” which
refers to “holding, owning and possessing each, every and the whole
perfect condition of life in which no aid or support is needed,
contentment” “in all things”
or “in each, every, the whole and everything”, “may
abound”
which means “might exceed a certain number or measure, turn out
abundantly and overflow” “to every”
or “to
each, all and the whole” “good
work”
which means “useful, salutary, pleasant, agreeable, joyful and
happy business, employment, act or deed”. Paul recognized that God
desired to supply everything the church members needed and that they
would “exceed abundantly” toward all their “pleasant deeds”.
When we meditate upon
these words of
Paul, we see how God desires to extend his “abundant grace”
toward those who believe and trust in Him. God wants His people to be
sufficiently supplied so they will excel in their “good works” in
His Kingdom. Jesus Christ came to save people from their sins, and
after they discover and believe in this great truth, they shall
desire not only to give toward the “gospel”, but also “abound”
in every good work in which they are involved.
Next
time Paul tells the church members,
“he
has dispersed abroad; he has given to the poor”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then,
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
