Paul
the apostle shared with the church members in Corinth that he and his
companions were, “To
preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in
another man's line of things made ready to our hand.”,
and he added, “he
that glories, let him glory in the Lord” In
chapter ten and verse seventeen of Second
Corinthians, Paul shares with the church members about,“whom
the Lord commends”
where we read:
For not
he that commends himself is approved, but whom the Lord commends.
The verse begins, “For
not he that commends himself is approved,...”
Paul began with the words, “for”
which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and
therefore” “not he that commends
himself” or
“the person that does not show, prove, establish and exhibit
themselves” “is approved”
which means “is acceptable and pleasing”. Paul declared the
person who does not “prove” themselves as an “acceptable”
person.
The verse goes on to say,
“... but whom the Lord commends.”
Paul continued with the word, “but” which
is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be
written takes precedence over what was just stated “whom”
or “the person who” “the Lord”
which refers to “the anointed One, the Messiah and the Son of God”
“commends”
which means “shows, proves, establishes and exhibits”. The person
who does not “prove” themselves is “established and exhibited”
by Jesus who is the Messiah and Son of God.
When we think through
these words of
Paul, we see the benefit to not attempting to “prove” ourselves.
The Lord is ready to “establish” us when we humble ourselves and
allow Him to do the “commending”. Jesus desires for us to be a
“humble” people who receive our “commendation” from Him, and
those who are wise shall not “boast” concerning themselves, but
allow Him to “prove” us as He wills.
Next
time we begin a new chapter and see Paul
ask
the
church members if they, “could
bear with” him
a little in” his
“folly”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then,
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
