Readiness to Revenge Disobedience 2 Corinthians 10:6

Paul the apostle shared with the church members in Corinth, though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh, because “the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;), and he continued, Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”. In chapter ten and verse six of Second Corinthians, Paul encourages the church members toward, “having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience with them where we read:

And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

The verse begins, And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, ... Paul began with the words, “and having” which means “and holding, owning or possessing” “in a readiness” or “preparedness and being adjusted” “to revenge” which means “toward vindication, protection, defense, avenging and punishing” “all disobedience” or “each, every, the whole and everyone of the inattentions and hearings which are amiss”. Paul exhorted the church members to always be “ready” to “defend against” “wrong intentions”.

The verse continued, “... when your obedience is fulfilled.” Paul continued with the words, “when your” or “at what time the church members'” “obedience” which means “compliance and submission” “is fulfilled” or “make full, cause to abound, furnish and supply liberally”. Paul desired for the church members to “fully obey” first, and afterwards he and his companions would address those who were “disobedient”.

When we think through these words of Paul, we see how he simply desired for the church members to comply with his directives. He had no desire to “revenge all disobedience”, but would do so if it continued to remain among them. Jesus Christ desires a disciplined church who obey Him, and when the church members do, it is to their advantage. Compliance with God and His ways are always most beneficial to those who follow Him, and should their be “disobedience”, God shall certainly deal with them.

Next time we see Paul tells the church members, “though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then,

Until tomorrow…there is more…
