All of Jerusalem Moved - Matthew 21:10

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus came into the city of Jerusalem upon a donkey, “and a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way. And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse ten of his book, Matthew shares how, “all the city was moved” where we read:

And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?

The verse reads, And when he was come into Jerusalem, ...”. Matthew began with the words, “and when” or “and at the time and moment” “he was come” which means “Jesus entered, arose and went” “into Jerusalem” or “in the city of Jerusalem which means set you double peace and is the capital of Palestine”. Matthew began to share what happened at the time Jesus entered into the city of Jerusalem.

The verse goes on to say, “... all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?” Matthew added the words, “all the city” or “each, every, the whole and everyone of the people in the habitation of Jerusalem” “was moved” which means “shaken, caused to tremble, quaking and being agitated”, “saying” or “uttering, declaring and proclaiming”, “who is this” or “what person is this man”? Matthew wrote how the people within Jerusalem desired to know who this person was that was entering into their city.

When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus' entry into the city of Jerusalem caused people within it to question who Jesus was. Today it is not a lot different as people continue to wonder who Jesus really is, and those who are wise will search the scriptures to discover this wonderful “Savior and Lord”. When they answer their question, the next step will be to submit their lives to Him and received him as the “Messiah” who was sent to “save” the world.

Next time Matthew shares how the multitude proclaimed, “this is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
