And last of all the woman died also.
The verse reads, “And last of all ...” Matthew began with the words, “and last” or “the latter person” “of all” which means “of the whole number of the ones who died”. Matthew shared how the “Sadducees” referred to the final person of whom they were speaking.
The verse continues, “... the woman died also.” Matthew added the words, “the woman” which means “the widow” “died also” or “even so and indeed breathed her last, expired and was deceased”. Matthew shared how the “Sadducees” said the “widow” of all these brothers died.
When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we see how the “Sadducees” presented Jesus with the final portion of their story. After all seven of the brothers married the woman and died, the woman died as well. God knows all people will eventually “breathe their last”, and when they do, His plan is for them to obtain “everlasting life” by receiving His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Though these “Sadducees” commenced with a story, Jesus was ready to respond them to invite them as well as all people to live eternally in heaven with Him.
Next time Matthew wrote how the Sadducees said, “in the resurrection whose wife shall she be”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
