No Man was Able to Answer Him - Matthew 22:46

Matthew the apostle wrote, While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, Saying, What think you of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David.” Jesus responded with these questions, “How then does David in spirit call him Lord, saying, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit on my right hand, till I make your enemies your footstool? If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse forty-six of his book Matthew shared how, “no man was able to answer him a word” where we read:

And no man was able to answer him a word,

neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

The verse reads, And no man was able to answer him a word, ...” Matthew began with the words, “and no man” which means “and not one person whether male or female“was able to answer him” or “was capable or had power to respond to Jesus with even” “a word” which means “an answer, response, decree, mandate or precept”. Matthew shared how not one single Pharisee was able to respond to Jesus' question.

The verse continues, “... neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.” Matthew added the word, “neither” which means “nor and not in any way” “durst any man” or “did any person whether male or female” “that day forth” which means “from that particular day forward” “ask him” or “question, interrogate, request, demand or inquire of Jesus” “any more questions” which means “any further or other inquiries or interrogations”. Matthew shared from that “day forward” no one asked Jesus questions concerning these things.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we discover the incapacity of the “Pharisees” to answer Jesus' question as to why King David called His son “Lord”. This lead them to be silenced concerning any other questions in this area. In other words, Jesus “stumped” the crowd of religious leaders, and they were silenced. Jesus knows people have questions concerning Him, and they may look to the word of God to discover His answer to everything. When a person examines His evidence, they shall discover He is the Messiah and Son of God who came to “save” them from their sins.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see Matthew write how, “Jesus speaks to the multitude and his disciples, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
