Mark wrote how Jesus was on the way to Jairus' house because his daughter was dying. Along the way a woman with an issue of blood came behind Jesus and was determined to be healed if she only touched His clothes. She was healed and Jesus said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you whole; go in peace, and be whole of your plague.” Mark added the following words, “While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Your daughter is dead: why trouble you the Master any further?As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he said unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe. And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. And he came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly. And when he was come in, he said unto them, Why make you this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleeps. And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he took the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entered in where the damsel was lying. And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto you, arise. And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment”, and in chapter five and verse forty-three of his book, Mark wrote how Jesus, “charged them straightly that no man should know it” where we read:
And he charged them straightly that no man should know it;
and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
The verse reads, “And he charged them straightly that no man should know it;” Mark began with the words, “and he charged them straightly” or “and Jesus ordered, disposed, admonished and set the people within the house forth distinctly” “that no man should know it” which means “that nobody else whether male or female should have knowledge of, be acquainted with, perceive or come to understand what happened with the little girl”. Mark shared how Jesus commanded everyone who knew about this little girl being raised back to life not to spread the word about it.
The verse goes on to say, “and commanded that something should be given her to eat.” Mark continued with the words, “and commanded” which means “and ordered and directed” “that something should be given her to eat” or “that food be granted, bestowed, supplied and furnished to the little girl”. Mark shared how Jesus told the people to give the “damsel” something to eat.
When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus not only did not want others to know what He did for this little girl, but He also cared for her “physical hunger”. Jesus knew people would talk about what He did, so He commanded them not to share about it. He also wanted this “little girl” to be nourished because she needed food. God cares about every need a person has in their lives, and when they submit themselves to His Son Jesus, He promises to “supply all” their “need according to His riches in glory” (See Philippians 4:19). Let all who read these words realize who Jesus is and understand He has power over “supernatural and natural” things.
Next time we begin a new chapter and see Mark share how Jesus, “came into his own country; and his disciples follow him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
