Mark wrote how Jesus was on the way to Jairus' house because his daughter was dying. Along the way a woman with an issue of blood came behind Jesus and was determined to be healed if she only touched His clothes. She was healed and Jesus said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you whole; go in peace, and be whole of your plague.” Mark continued with the words, “While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Your daughter is dead: why trouble you the Master any further? As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he said unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe. And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. And he came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly. And when he was come in, he said unto them, Why make you this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleeps. And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he took the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entered in where the damsel was lying. And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto you, arise. And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment. And he charged them straightly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat”, and in chapter six and verse one of his book, Mark writes how Jesus, “came into his own country; and his disciples follow him” where we read:
And he went out from there, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.
The verse reads, “And he went out from there, and came into his own country;” Mark began with the words, “and he went out from there” or “and Jesus left from the house of Jairus” “and came into his own country” which means “and entered into His own region, territory and arable land”. Mark shared how Jesus went back to His “own country” Nazareth where He grew up.
The verse continues, “and his disciples follow him.” Mark added the words, “and his disciples” which means “and Jesus' students, pupil and attendants” “follow him” or “came after, attended to and accompanied Jesus”. Mark shared how Jesus' “students and pupils” “accompanied” Him back to His “own country”.
When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus was on the move again. This time He went back “home” where He was raised in Nazareth. We shall see what happens to Him there, but for now let it suffice us to know that Jesus desired for people everywhere to know Him as the Christ of God and Messiah, and in His “own country” and in places where He ministered, everyone had an opportunity to “follow Him” as their personal “Savior and Lord”.
Next time we see Mark share how Jesus, “began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From where has this man these things?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
