In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness”, and in chapter fourteen and verse fourteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “the backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways” where we read,
The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways:
and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.
The verse begins, “The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways:” Solomon began with the words, “the backslider in heart” or “the person whether male or female who apostatizes, turns back and retreats within their soul, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections” “shall be filled” which means “will exist as sated, satisfied and fulfilled” “with his own ways” or “by the use of their own personal traveled roads, paths, journeys, manners, habits and courses of life”. Solomon shared how the person who has retreated and apostatized within their soul, mind and will shall be satisfied by the use of their own traveled road and journey.
The verse continues, “and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.” Solomon added the words, “and a good man” or “and a pleasant, agreeable, excellent, appropriate and becoming person whether male or female” “shall be satisfied” which means “will be sated, rewarded and fulfilled” “from himself” which means “separate and apart from their own self”. Solomon said the person who is pleasant and agreeable will receive reward and fulfillment from their own behavior.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how a “backslider” and a “good man” will receive recompense for their behavior. Each will receive from their attitudes and the way they have acted in the world. God knows we have sinful ways about us that lead us to a “selfish” life, and this type of life shall be rewarded accordingly. His desire is to change our lives to be more like Him who is unselfish and loving to others. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and lead us by His Holy Spirit into a life which is pleasant, agreeable and becoming which shall be rewarded according to His Divine purpose and plan.
Next time Solomon says, “the simple believes every word”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
