Holon and Debir - Joshua 21:15

In the book of Joshua, we learned how the people of Israel, “gave to the children of Aaron the priest Hebron with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Libnah with her suburbs. And Jattir with her suburbs, and Eshtemoa with her suburbs, and in chapter twenty-one and verse fourteen of Joshua we learn about, “Holon and Debir” where we read,

And Holon with her suburbs, and Debir with her suburbs

The verse reads, “And Holon with her suburbs, …” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and Holon” whose name means “sandy” and was “a town in the mountains of Judah given to the priests” “with her suburbs” or “alongside and accompanied by her, Holon’s, open and common land”. Joshua or the writer said the dwelling place of “Holon” accompanied by it’s common land was given to the “Levites”

The verse continues, … and Debir with her suburbs” Joshua or the writer added the words, “and Debir” whose name means “sanctuary” and was "a town in the mountains of Judah west of Hebron and given to the priests and a city of refuge” “with her suburbs” or “alongside and accompanied by her, Holon’s, open and common land”. Joshua or the writer added “Debir” and it’s common land to the names of the places given to the “Levites”

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn the names of two more of the dwelling places that were provided to the “tribe of Levi” to be used as “cities of refuge” for the people of Israel. One by one these places were being set up in advance of their need, and in like manner Jehovah God gave His Only Begotten Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross and raised from the dead after three days so we could believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”. When we yield to Him, we will be forgiven of our sins and granted everlasting life with Him forever, and given His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and equip us to live, wherever He places us in the world, in a manner that is pleasing to Him. (See John 3:16; 16:13; Acts 1:8; Revelation 4:11)

Next time we learn about, “Ain, Juttah and Bethshemesh”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
