An Enemy Has Done This - Matthew 13:28

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus told His disciples, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field. But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, did not you sow good seed in your field? from where then has it tares?”, and in chapter thirteen and verse twenty-eight of his book, Matthew wrote how Jesus tells His disciples about what happens, “” where we read:

He said unto them, An enemy has done this. The servants said unto him,

Will you then that we go and gather them up?

The verse reads, He said unto them, An enemy has done this. Matthew began with the words, “he said” which means “the householder uttered, declared and proclaim”“unto them” which means “to his servants”, “an enemy” or “a hateful, opposing and hostile human being whether male or female” “has done this” which means “has made, produced, rendered and prepared the sowing of the tares”. Matthew shared how Jesus said the householder recognized that a “foe” had “sown the bad seed or tares”.

The verse goes on to say, The servants said unto him, Will you then that we go and gather them up?” Matthew added the words, “the servants” which means “the bondmen, slaves, attendants and ones who gave themselves up to their householder's will and service” “said” or “uttered, declared, proclaimed and asked” “unto him” which means “to their householder or master”, “will you then” or “do you want and desire” “that we go and gather” which means “that the servants collect in order to carry off” “them up” or “the tares from among the wheat seeds”? Matthew shared how Jesus said the “servants” of the “householder” desired to know if their master wanted them to “collect” the “bad seeds or darnels” to carry them off.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see the servants' concern for their master's field. Though they were not responsible for the sowing of the “tares”, they were willing to collect them and carry them away. There are times when wicked and evil ideas which are contrary to the gospel of Jesus Christ are simultaneously spread, and many wonder if they should “carry off” those bad ideas. Jesus desires a relationship with every person that is based upon “truth”, and though falsehoods and wicked concepts simultaneously enter while His gospel goes forth, God Almighty shall manage the lies. May all who read these words understand the importance of the “good seed” of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and if they have not yielded their lives to Him, let today be the first day of allowing truly “good seed” into their lives.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus shares the householder says, “no, lest while you gather up the tares, you root up also the wheat with them, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
