The Prophet's Word Fulfilled - Matthew 13:35

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus spoke, Another parable … unto them;” where He declared, “The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.” Jesus continued, “All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them”, and in chapter thirteen and verse thirty-five of his book, Matthew wrote, “that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet” where we read:

That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

The verse reads, That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; Matthew began with the words, “that it might be fulfilled” which means “that the prophesy from old might be completed, finished and liberally supplied” “which was spoken” or “that was uttered, proclaimed and declared” “by the prophet” which means “through and by means of one who moved by the Spirit of God and hence his organ or spokesman, solemnly declares to men what he has received by inspiration, especially concerning future events, and in particular such as relate to the cause and kingdom of God and to human salvation”, “saying” or “uttering, declaring and proclaiming”, “I will open my mouth” which means “the Messiah will open up His mouth or speak” “in parables” or “using a narrative that is fictitious but agreeable to the laws and usages of human life, by which either the duties of men or the things of God, particularly the nature and history of God's kingdom are figuratively portrayed and is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning”. Matthew shared how Jesus “fulfilled” the prophesy that the Messiah would speak to the multitudes in “parables”.

The verse continues, I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world. Matthew added the words, “I will utter things” which means “the Messiah would speak, declare and proclaim things pertaining to the kingdom” “which have been kept secret” or “that have been concealed and unknown” “from the foundation” which means “in origin from the deposition, founding and conceiving” “of the world” which pertains to “the earth, universe and the whole circle of earthly goods, endowments riches, advantages and pleasures”. Matthew shared how Jesus “fulfilled” the prophesy from the Psalmist (See Psalm 78:2-3) to show how “the things” which the Messiah would reveal that have been “concealed” since the inception and conceiving of the “world”.

When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus “fulfilled” yet another prophesy from old. The Psalmist wrote that He would speak to people in “parables” which are “earthly stories with heavenly meanings”, and share ideas and concepts that have been “unknown” until His coming. God desires to have a relationship with every person through His Messiah Son Jesus, and when they yield their lives to Him by putting “faith and trust” in His name, they not only shall be saved but shall receive “everlasting life”. This is the “revealed” truth of God who came to offer “salvation” to mankind, and those who are wise shall receive His Son Jesus and be saved today.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus, “sent the multitude away”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
