Have You Understood All These Things? - Matthew 13:51

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus said, “the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth”, and in chapter thirteen and verse fifty-one of his book, Matthew wrote how Jesus asks His disciples, “have you understood all these things?” where we read:

Jesus said unto them, Have you understood all these things? They say unto him, Yes, Lord.

The verse reads, Jesus said unto them, Have you understood all these things? Matthew began with the words, “Jesus” or “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “said” which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto them” or “to His disciples”, “have you understood” which means “have you perceived, comprehended and put together” “all these things” or “each, every, the whole and everyone of the things Jesus said”. Matthew shared how Jesus questioned His disciples as to whether His disciples “perceived and comprehended” everything He shared with them.

The verse goes on to say, They say unto him, Yes, Lord. Matthew continued with the words, “they say” which means “the disciples uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto him” or “to Jesus”, “Yes, Lord” which means “verily, truly and surely Master, and the one to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding”. Matthew shared how the disciples affirmed they knew everything Jesus taught them through parables.

When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we see Jesus' desire to know whether His disciples understood everything He taught them. This is the same for those who read these words as well. God desires to have a loving personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they receive Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they shall be given insights into the “kingdom of heaven” that are provided by God for all who are willing to see.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus tells His disciples about, “therefore ever scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
