Above Forty and Healed - Acts 4:22

Luke the physician wrote how Peter and John were arrested for speaking to the people in the temple about the resurrection of the dead. After some discussion between them, the religious leaders put Peter and John away from them and said, “What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle has been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it. But that it spread no further among the people, let us straightly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge you. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done”, and in chapter four and verse twenty-two of the book of Acts Luke shared how, “the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was showed” where we read:

For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was showed.

The verse begins, “For the man was above forty years old, ...” Luke began with the words, “for the man” which means “because, since and on account that the lame man” “was above forty years old” which means “was over forty years of age” on whom the following was performed. Luke shared how the “lame man” was over “forty years old” when the following occurred.

The verse continues, ... on whom this miracle of healing was showed. Luke added the words, “on whom this miracle of healing” or “on whom the wonder, supernatural occurrence, sign and token” “was showed” which means “came into existence, made, performed and wrought”. Luke shared how the supernatural miracle of healing was worked, performed and produced upon the lame man.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how the “lame man” was over “forty years old” when he received his healing from God through Peter and John. Because the man was of that age when he was restored, this was a notable miracle indeed. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus. When a person surrenders their life to Jesus, He will forgive their sins, grant them everlasting life and perform miracles that will make others “glorify God” on account of them.

Next time Luke shares how Peter and John, “went to their own company, and reported”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
