Beholding the Man which was Healed - Acts 4:14

Luke the physician wrote how Peter and John were arrested for teaching the people in the temple about the resurrection from the dead after they healed the lame man. The religious leaders who seized them, asked them, “By what power, or by what name, have you done this? Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, You rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole. Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him does this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus”, and in chapter four and verse fourteen of the book of Acts Luke shared how the religious leaders were, “beholding the man which was healed standing with them” where we read:

And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

The verse begins, “And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, ...” Luke began with the words, “and beholding the man” which means “and looking upon, seeing and perceiving the male human being that was lame” “which was healed” which means “who was cured and made well and whole” “standing with them” or “fixed, established, placed and set alongside Peter and John” had the following reaction. Luke shared how the religious leaders and people of Israel observed the “lame man” who was made whole “standing” with “Peter and John” had the following response.

The verse continues, “... they could say nothing against it.” Luke added the words, “they could say nothing” or “the religious leaders and people of Israel were unable to utter, declare and proclaim not one thing” “against it” which means “in opposition to the healing of the lame man”. Luke shared how the religious leaders and people of Israel were unable to “say” anything “against” the supernatural “healing” which was performed on the formally lame man.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how the religious leaders and people of Israel who were gathered together to investigate Peter and John “looked upon” the formally lame man who was healed and “standing with them” and were unable to make any statements about or against it. This was indeed a notable miracle performed by “Peter and John”, and there was no way to dispute it with the man “standing” in their presence. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they surrender their lives to Him as their “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life with Him. Those who are wise will yield to Jesus who alone is able to provide “salvation” and “healing of the soul” for every man throughout all eternity.

Next time Luke shares how the religious leaders, “commanded them to go aside out of the council”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
