Signs and Wonders - Acts 5:12

Luke the physician wrote after the death of Ananias and Sapphira for tempting the Spirit of the Lord, “great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.”, and in chapter five and verse twelve of the book of Acts Luke wrote, “by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people” where we read:

And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people;

(and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.

The verse begins, “And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people;” Luke began with the words, “and by the hands of the apostles” which means “and through the physical hands belonging to the delegates, messengers and sent out ones of Jesus” “were many signs” or “existed a great number of tokens, marks and portents” “and wonders wrought” which means “and miracles and omens came into existence, appeared and happened” “among the people” or “with the human beings both male and female of the same genus, nation, tribe and stock”. Luke shared how the “apostles” worked a great number of “marks, portents and miracles” with the human beings in which they encountered.

The verse continues, “(and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.” Luke parenthetically added the words, “(and they were all with one accord” which means “and the people within the church were each, every, the whole and everyone of them in unison, undivided and of one mind” “in Solomon's porch” or “within the portico or covered colonnade where people can stand or walk protected from the weather and the heat of the son which was built in the eastern part of the temple by Solomon whose name means peaceful and was the son of David and was the wisest and richest king that ever lived”. Luke parenthetically shared how the people within the “church” were unified as they met under “Solomon's portico” located in the “temple” in Jerusalem.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn not only how the “apostles” of Jesus were performing an abundance “miracles and signs” among the people as they met in the “portico of the temple” which was built by “King Solomon”. God's church was on the move, and believers in Jesus were increasing every day. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to save people from theirs sins, and when they believe and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive them and grant them everlasting life. Let all who read these words be in “one accord” like the people in the early church and fulfill the plan of God to have a family of believers in Him.

Next time Luke shares, “of the rest did no man join himself to them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
