Repent and Be Converted - Acts 3:19

Luke the physician wrote how Peter told the people who gathered together after the lame man at the temple was healed, “The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his Son Jesus; whom you delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you. And killed the Prince of life, whom God has raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. And his name through faith in his name has made this man strong, whom you see and know: yes, the faith which is by him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. And now, brethren, I know that through ignorance you did it, as did also your rulers. But those things, which God before had showed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he has so fulfilled”, and in chapter three and verse nineteen of the book of Acts Luke shared how Peter told the people, “Repent you therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out” where we read:

Repent you therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out,

when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

The verse begins, “Repent you therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, ...” Luke began with the words, “Repent you therefore” which means “have a mind change for better and heartily amend with abhorrence past sins you, people who gathered to him and John, then, wherefore, consequently and on this account”, “and be converted” or “and return to the worship of the true God through love and obedience”, “that your sins” which means “so your, people who gathered, errors, wrongs, mistakes and missing of the mark” “may be blotted out” or “can be anointed, washed, besmeared, covered, obliterated and erased”. Luke shared how “Peter” instructed the people to “change their minds and heartily amend with abhorrence their past sins” so their “sins” may be “anointed, washed away and obliterated”.

The verse goes on to say, “... when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;” Luke continued with the words, “when the times of refreshing” or “at the time and moment the opportunities and seasons pertaining to cooling, recovery and revival” “shall come” which means “will arise and appear” “from the presence of the Lord” or “apart and separated from the countenance, look and outward circumstances and eternal conditions belonging to the One to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master, and the title given to God the Messiah”. Luke shared how “Peter” referred to “recovery and revival” that arises and appears from the countenance of the “Lord” God.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “Peter” referred to the purpose and resolve of God to “refresh and revive” those who “repent and are converted” to His Son Jesus Christ. “Peter” was presenting the “gospel” or “good news” of God through His Son Jesus, and when a person turns from their “sinful” ways and commit themselves to Him, they will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. Those who are wise will submit to “Peter's” words spoken to these people and “repent and be converted” so their “sins will be blotted out”.

Next time Luke shares how Peter says, “he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
