Look on Us - Acts 3:4

Luke the physician wrote how, “Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple. Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms”, and in chapter three and verse four of the book of Acts Luke shared how Peter told the lame man to, “look on us” where we read:

And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.

The verse begins, “And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, ... Luke began with the words, “and Peter” which means “and Peter whose name means a little rock or stone who was Jesus' disciple”, “fastening his eyes upon him” or “fixing Peter's own physical eyes and gazing intently at the crippled man” “with John” which means “alongside of John whose name means Jehovah is a gracious giver and was also a disciple of Jesus”, “said” or “uttered, declared and proclaimed” the following words. Luke shared how Peter and John looked intently at the lame man and instructed him with the following words.

The verse continues, “... Look on us.” Luke added the word, “look” or “see, discern, perceive and regard with your physical eyes” “on us” which means “upon us, Peter and John”. Luke shared how Peter and John instructed the lame man to fix his eyes upon them

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Peter alongside John told the “lame man” to set his eyes upon them. Peter will say more to this man in our next verse, but for now let us understand that the lame man captured the attention of both Peter and John. God desires people to know that they have His attention, and He knows not only their conditions but also their needs. God knew people needed a “Savior” from their sins which separate them from Him. He sent His Son Jesus to pay the price of death on the cross so every person may be forgiven of their sins and live forever with Him. Let all who read these words “Look” upon the Lord Jesus who is able to supply every need.

Next time Luke shares how the lame man, “gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
