Go, Stand and Speak - Acts 5:20

The physician Luke wrote. after the death of Ananias and Sapphira for tempting the Spirit of the Lord, “great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things. And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch. And of the rest did no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.) Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one. Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation, And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison. But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said, ...”, and in chapter five and verse twenty of the book of Acts Luke shared how the angel told the apostles, “Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people” where we read:

Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

The verse begins, “Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people ...” Luke began with the angel's words, “Go, stand and speak” which means “depart, traverse, be set, standing and utter, declare and proclaim” “in the temple” or “within the sacred worship place in Jerusalem” “to the people” which means “toward the human beings both male and female” the following words. Luke shared how the angel instructed the “apostles” who were set free from the “common prison” to depart, stand within the temple and proclaim the following words.

The verse continues, “... all the words of this life.” Luke added the words, “all the words” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of the speech, discourse and utterance” “of this life” or “pertaining to the absolute fullness of life, both essential and ethical which belongs to God and is real and genuine, active, vigorous and devoted to God, blessed and in the portion even in this world of those who put their trust in Christ”. Luke shared how the angel told the “apostles” to “speak” every one of the “words” pertaining to the “life” that is dedicated to God through His Son Jesus.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how the “angel” from God instructed the “apostles” who were set free from prison to “speak” every one of the “words” concerning the “life” they were now living in a relationship with God. Jesus came to the world to die for the sins of all mankind, and He paid the ultimate price of death on the cross so people might gain everlasting life with His Father God. Those who are wise will hear and receive the words of the “gospel of Jesus Christ” and surrender their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”.

Next time Luke shares concerning the “apostles”, “when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
