Not Eating the Bread of Him with an Evil Eye - Proverbs 23:6

In the book of Proverbs Solomon asked, “Will you set your eyes upon that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven, and in chapter twenty-three and verse six of Proverbs Solomon said, “eat you not the bread of him that has an evil eye” where we read,

Eat you not the bread of him that has an evil eye,

neither desire you his dainty meats;

The verse begins, “Eat you not the bread of him that has an evil eye, ... Solomon began with the words, “eat you not the bread of him” or “do not devour and consume the grain or food of the person whether male or female” “that has an evil eye” which means “who holds, owns and possesses a bad, disagreeable, malignant and wicked physical eye for seeing and vision or mental and physical faculties”. Solomon instructed his readers and listeners not to consume the food or grain of a person who possesses a wicked physical or mental “eye”.

The verse continues, “neither desire you his dainty meats;” Solomon added the words, “neither desire you” or “no and not in any way or manner want, covet, wait longingly, wish for or prefer” “his dainty meats” which means “his, the evil person's, tasty, savory or delectable foods”; Solomon said his readers and listeners were not to covet any of the tasty or savory foods that the person with the “evil eye” offers.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon that we are not to consume or devour the grain or food that is possessed by wicked and malignant people, and we are not to covet their savory food. Although the food may be good to the physical taste, the strings attached to them may be more than we thought. God wants us to be wise, and He offers His wisdom to everyone who asks Him (See James 1:5), The wisest choice we will ever make is to receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins as our personal “Savior and Lord”. When we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and guide us according to His wisdom and ways before people who possess an “evil eye” with the delicious foods they offer.

Next time Solomon says, “as he thinks in his heart, so is he”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
