Paul
the apostle told the church members in Corinth how Jesus, “was
buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the
scriptures:”. In
chapter fifteen and verse thirteen of First Corinthians, Paul told
the church members in Corinth how Jesus was, “if
there be no resurrection of the dead”,
where we read:
But if
there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
The
verse begins, “But
if there be no resurrection of the dead,...”
Paul began
with the word, “but” which
is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be
written takes precedence over what was just stated “if
there be”
which means “whether there exists” “no
resurrection”
which refers to “no raising or rising up” “of
the dead”
or “from the lifeless, deceased, departed, destitute of life and
inanimate”. Paul accounted for the possibility of there being “no
resurrection of the dead”
at all.
The
verse goes on to say, “...then
is Christ not risen:” Paul
continued with the word, “then”
which means
“therefore, consequently and accordingly” “is
Christ”
which refers to “the anointed One, the Messiah and the Son of God”
“not risen”
which means “not raised, aroused, awaken, caused to rise, stirred
up and erected”. Paul concluded that if there was not a
“resurrection”,
then Jesus Himself would not have been “raised from the dead”.
When
we think through these words from Paul, we see how he used
“resurrection” to prove his point about Jesus. If
“resurrection” was not true, then Jesus could not have
been “resurrected”. Because “resurrection” is
valid, Jesus was “resurrected”, and His resurrection
proves that “resurrection” is true. All those who believe
in Jesus Christ as their personal “Savior and Lord” shall also be
given “eternal life”, and although they shall “die” in their
flesh, their spirits shall continue eternally with God even as
“Christ Jesus the Lord” demonstrated.
Next
time Paul tells
the church members what happens,
“if Christ be not risen”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
