Spirits of the Prophets are Subject to Themselves 1 Corinthians 14:32

Paul the apostle told the church members in Corinth, all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted, and in chapter fourteen and verse thirty-two of First Corinthians, Paul shared concerning, the spirits of the prophets”, where we read:

And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

The verse begins, And the spirits of the prophets ...”. Paul began with the words, “And the spirits” or “the disposition or influence which fills and governs the soul of any one” “of the prophets” which means “pertaining to the ones who moved by the Spirit of God and who hence his organ or spokesman, solemnly declares to men what he has received by inspiration, especially concerning future events, and in particular such as relate to the cause and kingdom of God and to human salvation”. Paul referred to the “prophets' spirits” within the church who exercised their “vocal spiritual gift”.

The verse goes on to say, “... are subject to the prophets.” Paul continued with the words, “are subject” which means “arranged under, put in subjection and under one's control” “to the prophets” or “the ones who moved by the Spirit of God and who hence his organ or spokesman, solemnly declares to men what he has received by inspiration, especially concerning future events, and in particular such as relate to the cause and kingdom of God and to human salvation”. Paul shared how those who have the “spiritual gift of prophesy” are under the control of themselves within the church.

When we think through these words from Paul, we see how those who possess the “spiritual gift of prophesy” have control over their “gifts”. There should never be an outdoing or impulsive proclamation within the church because a person feels the need to express themselves. Jesus Christ desires “order” within His church, and those who exercise the “gift of prophesy” must “control” themselves in order to “edify” others who are part of the church body.

Next time Paul tells the church members, “for God is not the author of confusion, but of peace”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
