As
Paul the apostle continued to share concerning spiritual matters and
order within the church, he instructed the church members in Corinth
to, “covet
to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.”
In
chapter fourteen and verse forty of First Corinthians, Paul exhorted
the church members to, “Let
all things be done decently and in order.”,
where we read:
Let
all things be done decently and in order.
The
verse begins, “Let all things ...”
Paul began
with the word, “let” or
“allow and permit”, “all things”
which means “each, every, the whole and everything”. Paul
referred to “everything” he shared about within his instructions
concerning spiritual things.
The
verse goes on to say, “... be done
decently and in order”.
Paul added
the words, “be done” which
means “become, come into existence, begin to be and happen”
“decently”
or “in a seemly and honest manner” “and
in order”
which means “in an arrangement, fixed succession observing in a
fixed time, right and orderly condition, fashion or style”. Paul
exhorted the church members to do everything they did in an “right
and orderly condition”.
When
we meditate upon these words from Paul, we see his intention was to
be certain the church members operating in a “honest” and
“orderly” manner. Jesus Christ desires for His church to function
in such a way that it is attractive to unbelievers, and if it is
managed “indecently” and in “disorder”, people will not
desire to be a part of it. Let us not forget our Savior Jesus' words,
“by this shall everyone know that you are my disciples, if
you have love one to another”,
and may we seek to keep His church as He desires for it to be.
Next
time we begin a new chapter as Paul writes to the church members, “I
declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
