Paul
the apostle told the church members in Corinth, “Let
the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge”,
and in chapter fourteen and verse thirty
of First Corinthians, Paul declared, “be
not children in understanding”,
where we read:
The
verse begins, “If
any thing
be revealed to another that sits by, ...”.
Paul began
with the word, “If” or
“whether” “any thing be revealed”
which refers to “something that is uncovered, laid open what has
been veiled or covered up, disclosed and made bare” “to
another”
or “to a different person” “that
sits by”
which means “who is seated nearby”. Paul referred to someone who
would be “seated” by the person giving the “prophesy”.
The
verse continues, “... let
the first hold his peace.” Paul
added the word, “let” which
means “allow and permit” “the
first” or
“the chief or principal” “hold”
which means
“keep” “his peace”
or “in silence or in concealment. Paul told the “first”
person sitting near the one who “prophesies”
to “keep silent” while the other person is “prophesying”.
When
we consider these words from Paul, we see how he gave instructions to
the “prophesies” which were spoken in the church. No one
was to speak while another person was “prophesying” even
if they had a “revelation” during the “prophesy”.
Jesus Christ desires order to be within His church, and even in the
“vocal spiritual gift” of “prophesy” there is a
time to “speak” and a time to “keep silent”.
Next
time Paul tells
the church members,
“you may all prophesy one by
one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
