Paul
the apostle told the church members in Corinth, “Christ
died for our sins according to the scriptures”,
and in
chapter fifteen and verse four of First Corinthians, Paul shared with
the church members how Jesus was, “buried,
and that he rose again the third day”,
where we read:
And
that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to
the scriptures:
The
verse begins, “And
that he was buried,...” Paul
began with the words, “and that he”
or “and
because and since Jesus” “was
buried”
which means “inhumed or interred”. Not only did Jesus “die”,
but He was also “buried”
afterwards. (See Matthew 27:57-61)
The
verse continues, “and that he rose
again the third day according to the scriptures”.
Paul added
the word, “and that he” which
refers to “and because and since Jesus” “rose
again”
which means “aroused, awoke, raised and stirred up” “the
third day” or
“three days after He was buried” “according”
or “down from, through and along” “to
the scriptures”
which means “the things written in a certain portion or section of
the Holy Scripture”. After Jesus died and was buried, He “rose
again” three
days later which is recorded in the “Holy Scriptures”. (See
Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24 and John 20)
When
we think through these words from Paul, we note his reiteration of
the details of the “gospel” of Jesus Christ. Jesus “died for
our sins”, was “buried” afterwards in a tomb and
“rose again” from the grave three days later. This is why
Christians celebrate “Easter”. Jesus is risen, and He promises
that those who are believers in Him shall do the same. Let us
celebrate the “risen Savior” and trust in Him and the “power of
His resurrection”.
Next
time Paul tells
the church members,
“he was
seen of Cephas, then of the twelve”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
