As
Paul the apostle continued to give instructions to the church members
in Corinth concerning order within the church, he addressed women
speaking and told them, “if
they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for
it is a shame for women to speak in the church.”,
and in chapter fourteen and verse
thirty-six of First Corinthians, Paul questioned the church members,
“came the
word of God out from you?”,
where we read:
What?
came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?
The
verse begins, “What?
came the word of God out from you?”.
Paul began
with the word, “What” or
“either, or and than”? “came the
word”
which means “emitted as from the heart or mouth the speech,
conception or idea” “of God”
which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “out
from you”
or “emitted forth from the church members”? Paul rhetorically
asked whether the church members thought they were the source of the
“word of God”
that came to them.
The
verse goes on to say, “or
came it unto you only?” Paul
continued with the words, “or came
it” which
means “or emitted the word of God” “unto
you” or
“toward the church members” “only”
which means
“alone and merely”. Paul continued to ask the church members
whether they thought the “word of
God” came
only to them.
When
we consider these words from Paul, we recognize his attempt to show
the church members in Corinth how they were neither the originators
of the “word of God” nor were they responsible for the
“word of God” coming to them. When Jesus Christ exposes
people to His gospel, we should remember that God is the originator
and reveals it to whom He wills. May we always remember the greatness
of our God and His word, and attribute glory to Him for revealing it
to us.
Next
time Paul tells
the church members what to do,
“if any
man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
