Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus told His disciples the master of the servant who “hid” the “one talent” given to him said, “You wicked and slothful servant, you knew that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed. You ought therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received my own with usury. Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which has ten talents. For unto every one that has shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that has not shall be taken away even that which he has. And cast you the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth”, and in chapter twenty-five and verse thirty-one of his book, Matthew writes how Jesus referred to the time when He returns where He said, “then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory” where we read:
When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him,
then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
The verse reads, “When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him,” Matthew began with Jesus' word, “when” which means “at the time and moment” “the Son of man” or “God's Son Jesus” “shall come” which means “will arise, appear and come forth” “in his glory” or “into the Lord's splendor, brightness, magnificence, excellence and preeminence”, “and all the holy angels” which refers to “each, every, the whole and everyone of the pure, morally blameless or religiously and ceremonially consecrated messengers” “with him” or “with Jesus”. Matthew shared how Jesus referred to the time when He will appear in all His “splendor and brightness” along with His “pure and blameless” messengers.
The verse continues, “then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:” Matthew added Jesus' words, “then” which means “at that time and moment” “shall he sit upon” or “will the Son of man be seated, fixed and set on” “the throne” which means “the chair of state having a footstool and is assigned to kingly power or royalty” “of his glory” or “pertaining to Jesus' splendor, brightness, magnificence, excellence and preeminence” . Matthew shared how Jesus declared after He comes “in his glory, and all the holy angels with him”, He will sit upon His “throne” of authority in “splendor and brightness”.
When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we see how there will be a day when Jesus is exalted in all His “glory”, and His “angels” will appear with Him as He is “seated” upon His “throne” of “royal power and authority”. Though it may appear for a time that He is not “in charge”, all will know that He indeed is the “King of Kings” and the “Lord of Lords”. God desires for every person to be with Him throughout all eternity, and He made access for this through His Son Jesus. All who “believe and trust” in Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” shall not only “see Him in all His glory” but shall be a part of His Kingdom forever and ever. Let all who read these words know and understand how wonderful this moment of Jesus' exaltation shall be.
Next time Matthew writes how Jesus shares, “and before him shall be gathered all nations”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
