Where Do We Prepare to Eat the Passover? - Matthew 26:17

Matthew the apostle wrote, one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, And said unto them, What will you give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him”, and in chapter twenty-six and verse seventeen of his book, Matthew writes how Jesus' disciples asked Him, “where will you that we prepare for you to eat the passover?” where we read:

Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus,

saying unto him, Where will you that we prepare for you to eat the passover?

The verse reads, Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, ...” Matthew began with Jesus' word, “now” which means “moreover and” “the first” or “the beginning and foremost” “day of the feast of unleavened bread” or “day of Passover week where unleavened bread is eaten which is free from leaven or yeast” “the disciples” which refers to “the students, pupils and attendants” “came” or “drew near and appeared” “to Jesus” who is “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation”. Matthew shared how Jesus' “disciples” drew near to Him on the “first day” of the Passover feast.

The verse goes on to say, “... saying unto him, Where will you that we prepare for you to eat the passover?” Matthew continued with the word, “saying” which means “uttering, declaring and proclaiming” “unto him” which means “to Jesus”, “where will you” or “at what place does Jesus want” “that we prepare” which means “the disciples to make ready and provide” “for you” or “on Jesus' behalf” “to eat the passover” which means “to consume and devour the paschal lamb sacrifice which the Israelites were accustomed to slay and eat on the fourteenth day of the month of Nisan in memory of the day on which there fathers, preparing to depart from Egypt, were bidden by God to slay and eat a lamb, and to sprinkle their door post with its blood, that the destroying angel, seeing the blood, might pass over their dwellings”. Matthew shared how Jesus' disciples wanted to know where He wanted them to prepare the “passover” sacrifice.

When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus' disciples were aware of the “festivals and feasts” which were to be observed. They knew Jesus would have an idea where He wanted this “passover” feast to be held, so they asked Him. Jesus came to the world to be the “sacrificial lamb” for mankind, and as He prepared for this final earthly “passover”, He knew who He wanted to save. Those who are wise will yield their hearts and lives to Jesus and allow Him to convey the meaning of this “festival” within them.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus' disciples ask Him, “where will you that we prepare for you to eat the passover?, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
