Matthew the apostle wrote how, “Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where will you that we prepare for you to eat the Passover? And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master said, My time is at hand; I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples”, and in chapter twenty-six and verse nineteen of his book, Matthew writes how Jesus' disciples, “did as Jesus had appointed them” where we read:
And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the Passover.
The verse reads, “And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them;” Matthew began with Jesus' words, “and the disciples” which means “and Jesus' students, pupils and attendants” “did” or “made ready, produced, provided and acquired” “as Jesus” which means “even as the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “had appointed them” or “constituted, prescribed and appointed the disciples”. Matthew shared how Jesus' “followers, students and pupils” performed in the manner Jesus instructed them.
The verse goes on to say, “and they made ready the Passover.” Matthew continued with the words, “and they” which refers to “Jesus' disciples” “made ready” which means “prepared” “the Passover” which means “the paschal lamb sacrifice which the Israelites were accustomed to slay and eat on the fourteenth day of the month of Nisan in memory of the day on which there fathers, preparing to depart from Egypt, were bidden by God to slay and eat a lamb, and to sprinkle their door post with its blood, that the destroying angel, seeing the blood, might pass over their dwellings”. Matthew shared how Jesus' “disciples” prepared the “Passover” meal.
When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus' “disciples” obeyed Him and prepared the “Passover” meal. God loves “obedience”, and when people submit their “will” to His, they are the ones who benefit. These disciples were used to prepare Jesus' final earthly “Passover” meal, and they prepared Him to be the “true and actual” “Passover lamb” who would become “the Savior of the world”.
Next time Matthew shares how at the Passover Jesus, “sat down with the twelve”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
