Coming in His Kingdom - Matthew 16:28

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus said, the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works”, and in chapter sixteen and verse twenty-eight of his book, Matthew shares how Jesus said, “some ...shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom” where we read:

Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death,

till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

The verse reads, Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, ...”. Matthew began with the word, “verily” or “truly, surely and of a truth” “I say” which means “Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto you” or “to His disciples”, “there be some standing here” which means “there are certain ones of the disciples who were standing with Jesus”, “which shall not taste” which means “who will not partake of or experience” “death or “separation of the soul and body by which the life on earth is ended”. Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples that some of them would not “die” before they experience what He declares next.

The verse continues, “... till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom. Matthew added the words, “till” which means “until or even as far as” “they see” or “the disciples observe, perceive, notice, discern and behold” “the Son of man” or “used by Christ himself doubtless in order that he might intimate his Messiahship and also that he might designate himself as the head of the human family, the man, the one who both furnished the pattern of the perfect man and acted on behalf of all mankind” “coming” which means “arising, becoming known and appearing” “in his kingdom” or “within Jesus the Messiah's royal power, kingship, dominion and rule”. Matthew shared how Jesus said the disciples He referred to would not “die” before they saw Him appear in His “royal power” and “dominion”.

When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we discover this prophesy Jesus about “some” of His disciples. These specially chosen “disciples” were promised they would not “see death” before they saw Jesus in His Kingdom. God desires all people to be with Him in His Heavenly Kingdom, and when they yield their lives to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they shall not only see Him but shall live in His Kingdom with Him for ever and ever.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see Matthew writes, after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up into an high mountain, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
