How Should We Have So Much Bread? - Matthew 15:33

Matthew the apostle wrote how,Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way. ”, and in chapter fifteen and verse thirty-three of his book, Matthew shares how Jesus disciples asked Him, “where should we have so much bread?” where we read:

And his disciples said unto him,

Where should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?

The verse reads, And his disciples said unto him, ...”. Matthew began with the words, “and his disciples” which means “and Jesus' students, pupils and attendants” “said” or “uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto him” which means “to Jesus”. Matthew shared how Jesus' disciples approached Him and asked Him the following question.

The verse continues, Where should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude? Matthew added the words, “where should we have” which means “how would the disciples obtain and gain” “so much bread” or “such a large quantity of food composed of flour mixed with water and baked” “in the wilderness” which means “in the solitude, uninhabited, wasted and desert place”, “as to fill” or “to feed, gorge, supply and satisfy” “so great a multitude” which means “such a large and massive crowd of people”. Matthew shared how the disciples questioned Jesus as to where they would obtain such a huge amount of food in the “desert” to feed the people.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how the disciples were looking to the natural world to solve their dilemma of not having enough food to feed all the people surrounding them. Jesus was the right one to question because He is not limited to the “natural” world. Jesus worked miracles before the disciples over and over again, and this is the second crowd of people that Jesus was encouraging the disciples to feed. They must have forgotten how He fed the five thousand men plus women and children in the past, and they were faced with a similar situation again. God loves people to come to Him with difficult and impossible problems that need supernatural answers, and those who yield their lives to Him shall find Him more than able to handle any situation they encounter in their lives.

Next time Matthew shares how the disciples tell Jesus they have , “sevenloaves “and a few little fishes”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
