Moses and Elijah with Jesus - Matthew 17:3

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus said, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom. And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light”, and in chapter seventeen and verse three of his book, Matthew shares how, “there appeared unto them Moses and Elijah” where we read:

And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.

The verse reads, And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias ...”. Matthew began with the words, “and behold” or “and lo and see”, “there appeared” or “there was allowed to be seen” “unto them” which refers to “Peter, James and John” “Moses” or “the legislator of the Jewish people and in a certain sense the founder of the Jewish religion whose name means drawing out” “and Elias” which refers to “Elijah who was a prophet born at Thisbe and was the unflinching champion of the theocracy in the reigns of the idolatrous kings Ahab and Ahaziah whose name means my God is Jehovah”. Matthew shared how “Moses and Elijah” were seen by “Peter, James and John”.

The verse goes on to say, “... talking with him. Matthew continued with the word, “talking” which means “communing and speaking” “with him” or “with Jesus”. Matthew shared how “Moses and Elijah” were “speaking” with Jesus in His “transfigured” body.

When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we see how “Moses and Elijah” joined Jesus upon the mountain after He was “transfigured” before “Peter, James and John”. The interesting part is that they were discussing things with Jesus there, and these disciples were allow to see all these things. “Moses” represented “the law of God”, and “Elijah” represented “the prophets”. God desires people to understand that He has a plan of “salvation” for every person through His Son Jesus, and when they submit their lives unto Him, they shall know the significance having Jesus speak with the representatives of “the law and the prophets”.

Next time Matthew shares how Peter, said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be hereJesus, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
