Remember the Five Thousand Fed - Matthew 16:9

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus told His disciples,Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread. Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O you of little faith, why reason you among yourselves, because you have brought no bread?”, and in chapter sixteen and verse nine of his book, Matthew shares how Jesus asked His disciples if they, “remember the five loaves of the five thousand” where we read:

Do you not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand,

and how many baskets you took up?

The verse reads, Do you not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, ...”. Matthew began with the words, “do you not yet understand” which means “do the disciples of Jesus not yet comprehend, perceive, notice and discern”, “neither remember” or “nor recall, bring back to mind and hold in mind” “the five loaves” which means “the five loaves of bread which are made with flour mixed with water and baked” “of the five thousand” or “pertaining to the five thousand men who were fed by them”. Matthew shared how Jesus inquired of His disciples as to whether they recalled the “five thousand men plus women and children” who were fed by Him with only “five loaves” and “two fish”.

The verse goes on to say, ... and how many baskets you took up? Matthew continued with the words, “and how many baskets” which means “and what was the amount of wicker baskets” “you took up” which means “the disciples gathered and collected”? Matthew shared how Jesus questioned His disciples concerning the number of “baskets of food” they retrieved after the feeding of the “five thousand men plus women and children”.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus reminded His disciples of previous miracles to understand who He really is. God desires people to know Him and His ways through His Son Jesus, and when Jesus cared for the “five thousand”, He demonstrated how He could certainly take care of His “disciples”. The idea was for them to know Him and to realize He was capable of supplying all their needs. May all who read these words come to know Jesus who is sufficient to fulfill all “physical” and “spiritual” needs they may ever come to know.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus reminds His disciples about the, “seven loaves of the four thousand”,, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
