The Disciples Could Not Cure - Matthew 17:16

Matthew the apostle wrote when Jesus and His disciples, “were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying, Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatic, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falls into the fire, and oft into the water”, and in chapter seventeen and verse sixteen of his book, Matthew shares how Jesus' disciples, “could not cure him” where we read:

And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not cure him.

The verse reads, And I brought him to your disciples, ...”. Matthew began with the words, “and I brought him” or “the certain man carried and showed forth his son” “to your disciples” which means “to Jesus' students, pupils and attendants”. Matthew shared how the man previously took his son to Jesus' disciples.

The verse goes on to say, ... and they could not cure him. Matthew continued with the words, “and they could not” or “and Jesus' disciples were not able or capable to” “cure him” which means “heal and restore to health the certain man's son”. Matthew shared how Jesus' disciples were unable to “heal and restore” the man's son.

When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we discover the inability of Jesus' disciples to help this man's son. God is Almighty, and nothing is impossible for Him or His Son Jesus. God desires people to have a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus, and when they come to Him as “Savior and Lord”, there is no disease or physical condition that He is unable to heal.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus says, “O faithless and perverse generation, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
