Sit on the Ground - Matthew 15:35

Matthew the apostle wrote how,Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way. And his disciples say unto him, Where should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude? And Jesus said unto them, How many loaves have you? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes”, and in chapter fifteen and verse thirty-five of his book, Matthew shares how Jesus, “commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground” where we read:

And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.

The verse reads, And he commanded the multitude ...”. Matthew began with the words, “and he commanded” which means “and Jesus ordered and directed” “the multitude” or “the crowd and mass of people surrounding Him”. Matthew shared how Jesus gave direction to the crowd surrounding Him.

The verse continues, “... to sit down on the ground. Matthew added the words, “to sit down” which means “to be seated” “on the ground” which means “upon the earth, and arable land”. Matthew shared how Jesus directed the people to be seated on the ground around them.

When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus brought “order” to the people who were around Him before He performed this miracle. God is a God of order, and because Jesus knew the people would be better served by sitting on the ground, He directed them to do so. God desires a loving relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they submit themselves to His direction, He is well equipped to handle whatever need that comes into their lives.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus , “took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
