A Fiery Furnace for Non-Worshipers - Daniel 3:11

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how, “certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews. They spoke and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live for ever. You, O king, have made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image”, and in Daniel chapter three and verse eleven of his book, Daniel shared how the accusers reminded King Nebuchadnezzar that he said, “whoso falls not down and worships, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace”, where we read,

And whoso falls not down and worships,

that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.

The verse reads, “And whoso falls not down and worships, ... Daniel began with the words, “and whoso falls not down”or “and whatever person does not bow and prostrate themselves” “and worships” which means “and give homage and adoration” the following would happen to them. Daniel shared how the “Chaldean accusers” reminded King Nebuchadnezzar how he said that whatever person did not bow and give homage to his golden image would have the following occur.

The verse goes on to say, “... that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.” Daniel continued with the words, “that he should be cast” which means “that he, the person who does not bow and give homage, was to be hurled and thrown” “into the midst” or “into the middle” “of a burning fiery furnace” which means “of a hot, ardent, fervent and painful fire-place”. Daniel said the accusers reminded King Nebuchadnezzar that he said the person who did not bow down and worship his idol was to be thrown into a hot and fervent fire-place.

When we consider Daniel's words in this verse, we discover more of the reminding that the “Chaldean accusers” brought before King Nebuchadnezzar. They told him that he declared that any person who did not prostrate themselves and give homage to his golden idol was to be thrown into a hot fervent fire-place. We shall see more to this story in our next few verses, but for now let us be aware that there are always people who desire to come against God's plan of salvation for mankind. God knows we all have sinned and are in need of a “Savior” from the penalty for those sins which is death. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of everyone, and He raised Him from the dead after three days so when we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put the strength and wisdom of His Holy Spirit within us so we may be able to stand against all those who oppose Him and His plan of salvation. (Galatians 5:1; Ephesians 6:11)

Next time Daniel shares how the accusers told King Nebuchadnezzar, “there are certain Jews” who “serve not your gods”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
